What could be better than a survival experience in nature to rekindle the flame in your struggling couple.
This is a bit of what the new Canal Vie program hosted by Kim Rusk offers.
«Survival Couples propels us into full marital therapy on hostile ground to put couples in difficulty to the test”, warns the facilitator at the start of the program. Their goal, survive 36 hours in their survival experience tailored to them, according to their strengths and weaknesses.
The participants will therefore be put to the test, notably facing the cold and the few resources to test the solidity of their love and will learn more about their true nature.
Throughout the show, couple relationship specialist Anne-Marie Ménard will analyze their dynamics and the issues of couples in the company of survival expert Manu Tranquard, who is also a professor at UQAC and director of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The first episode tests the couple, freshly married of Jade and Samuel, two strong heads. The couple is motivated, they have been parents for 10 months and outdoor enthusiasts. However, trust and communication are failing.
To surprise them and break up their complementarity, the experts chose to separate them at the start of the event on remote islands, poor in resources and with little equipment. Survival takes place in the Poisson Blanc Regional Park in the heart of October. The water is below 10 degrees and the nights are freezing.
Their experience will require them to communicate well and manage their leadership keeping in mind that sometimes it is better to have only one captain on board.
“It takes guts and doing it as a couple, you have to be crazy!” underlined host Kim Rusk, during the launch of the new season of Canal Vie.
“What you have to understand is that at the start, we meet our couples with specialists to try to bring out the problems of the couple. And through these issues, we create survival experiences to bring out the bad guy and hope that it gets sorted out and that the couples work on them, ”added the host.
In all, eight couples played during this first season.
Survival Couples will be on Canal Vie starting Wednesday at 8 p.m.
