Successful in patients with non-melanoma skin cancer of the superficial and nodular basal cell carcinoma type, photodynamic therapy is a viable, effective and safe alternative for cases where there is no recommendation for surgical intervention either because it is impossible or because the tumor is low risk. .

Just to get an idea of the results obtained with the treatment, it was observed that the clinical trials carried out by the researchers in reference centers in oncology showed minimal rates of disease recurrence and a cure rate that remains at 90%.

One of the differentials of the new therapy is that it can be performed in outpatient clinics, thus eliminating the need for a complex surgical structure. In addition to practicality, Conitec also assessed that the implementation will find already trained professionals and a structure installed with the equipment in dozens of public health services.

Talking about the treatment itself, the procedure consists of applying a photosensitizing drug in cream with subsequent irradiation of light to destroy the tumor, making it possible to treat more than one lesion and repeat the therapy.
