Suspect who threatens restaurant owners with death arrested in Laval

A suspect involved in a case of extortion and death threats once morest restaurateurs in Laval and Sainte-Thérèse has been arrested, pending his appearance Friday in the Court of Quebec on charges of extortion and threats of death.

The Crimes Against Persons Squad of the Service de police de Laval (SPL) has opened an investigation into a wave of violence targeting restaurant owners during the summer in Laval and North Crown territory.

According to the SPL’s investigation, Brandon Flores-Rodriguez, 26, presented himself to the victims, demanding a sum of money from them in exchange for protective service.

The restaurateurs who refused the suspect’s requests would have received threats from him to burn down the buildings housing their businesses, according to the SPL, which believes that other people may have been victims and wishes to meet them.
