Humanitarian flights organized by the World Food Program (WFP) were suspended in Burkina Faso on Wednesday due to a “lack of coordination” between the UN agency and the competent authorities, the agency reported on Saturday. information from Burkina (AIB, official).

“Consultations are underway for the resumption of these flights,” said the AIB, citing official sources.

In a note, the World Food Program said that the air authorities requested the immediate suspension of the operation due to “lack of flight clearance”.

Consultations are underway with the authorities of Ouagadougou in order to find a solution to this situation and thus enable the WFP to deliver food to the populations of the zones prey to terrorist attacks, according to a humanitarian source in Anadolu.

The suspension of WFP humanitarian flights comes a few weeks after Barbara Manzi, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Burkina Faso, was declared “persona non grata” on December 23, and ordered to leave Burkina Faso.

Before the expulsion of the UN official, two French citizens had been arrested for espionage activities of the defense and security forces and expelled from Burkinabe territory on the night of December 17 to 18, 2022.

Since December 3, 2022, the Burkinabè government has decided to suspend until further notice the broadcasting of Radio France Internationale (RFI) programs throughout the national territory because of “deficiencies” observed in the work of the French media, according to an official press release.

Faced with a security crisis fueled by terrorist attacks since 2015, in addition to internal actions to regain territory, Burkina Faso is also committed to diversifying its partnerships in the military field in order to intensify the fight against terrorism.
