The fourth victim of the Suviana massacre has been identified. This was communicated by the Prefecture of Bologna. He is Adriano Scandellari, 57 years old, born in Padua and resident in Ponte San Nicolò (Padua), a specialized worker for Enel Green Power in the O&M Hydro function. He had recently been awarded the star of merit for his work by the head of state, Sergio Mattarella. The wife is in Bargi. His body was recovered this morning together with that of another missing person, the fifth victim, not yet identified.

Meanwhile, the crimes hypothesized in the file opened by the Bologna Prosecutor’s Office on the accident in the hydroelectric power plant on Lake Suviana, in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, are d manslaughter and manslaughter. The Chief Prosecutor Giuseppe Amato and the prosecutor Flavio Lazzarini are dealing with the case. The hopes of firefighters and divers of finding the four missing workers alive after the explosion of the Bargi hydroelectric power plant on the Suviana artificial lake in the Bologna Apennines, in which three workers lost their lives, are waning hour by hour ( the Bologna Prefecture corrected the figure late in the evening) while another five seriously injured were taken to hospitals in Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany.

The searches have been going on since the afternoon of April 9th, despite the difficulties, as Luca Cari, communication manager of the Fire Brigade, explained: «We are working with little hope of finding the missing alive, the scenario in front of us does not give us this idea . Our research teams from Pisa, the Urban search and rescue, they are searching under the rubble on the minus 8 floor, our divers are working on the flooded minus 9, where we need to dive: the situation is very complex, both in the dry and flooded parts.” On April 10, the water pumps went into action to remove the water that continued to rise into the underground floors.

Extraordinary maintenance

From the first reconstructions of the accident, shortly before 3pm on 9 April the transformer on the -8 floor of the hydroelectric power plant exploded, causing the partial collapse of the attic and flooding on the -9 floor. A team of a dozen workers was completing extraordinary maintenance work on “Group 2” of the plant. A complex overhaul work in progress for about a year, which concerns in particular the rotary valve, contracted by Enel Green Power (the company that manages the plant, of the Enel group) to Abb and Siemens, the local media report, in turn supported by other smaller external companies. Nine companies appear to be working on the construction site on the artificial basin.

Enel Green Power, in a note, specified: «Efficiency works were underway in the power plant that Enel Green Power had contracted with three primary companies, Siemens, ABB and Voith. From what has been reconstructed, the testing of the first generation group had already finished in recent days and, at the time the accident occurred, the testing of the second group was underway”.
