Swede Ludvig Aberg (23) won the European Masters in Crans-Montana, thanks to a last round of 64. He finished the tournament with 261 strokes, or 19 under par. Aberg – who won for the first time on the European tour – edged his compatriot Alexander Björk by 2 strokes.

Leader since the first round, the Englishman Matthew Fitzpatrick had to settle for 3rd final place, tied with the Scotsman Connor Syme. His last lap, completed with a 69, was not good enough to celebrate a 3rd success in Valais after 2017 and 2018.

The two Swiss present in the 4th round ended their pensum on a mixed note. Both Cedric Gugler and Jeremy Freiburghaus returned a card of 72, or 2 over par.

Gugler 57th final and best Swiss

On the greens of Crans-Montana, the Bâlois Gugler had a more complicated Sunday morning than his first three courses, which he had each time concluded under par (70) with 68, 69 and 69. After having missed his case with a +5 on Saturday, the Grison Freiburghaus did not find the solution on Sunday. He therefore finished in 73rd place with 284 strokes. Gugler does a little better with his 57th place and a total of 278.

Asked by Swiss Golf, Gugler said he was very satisfied with his week in Valais: “I could have finished my week better, but I’m very happy to have collected my first card on the front of the DP World Tour.”

Jeremy Freiburghaus would also have liked to end his career higher in the rankings, but the Grison tries to be positive: “The tournament didn’t go as well as I hoped, but I’ll take the positive out of it all and I’m glad I ended it all on a birdie to sweeten my day..”
