Helsinki/Stockholm/Brussels – Under the impression of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, Sweden and Finland officially applied for admission to NATO on Wednesday. The two Nordic countries jointly submitted their membership applications to the Brussels headquarters of the western military alliance. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg spoke of a “historic moment”. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made approval conditional on approaching security issues.
