Swedish pop group Roxette dares to restart a tour with a new singer

Mastermind Per Gessle has now announced on his social media channels that he wants to go on tour again with the extensive catalog of hits from 2025. He was able to engage Swedish superstar Lena Philipsson as a singer.

Roxette, founded in 1986, started with their second album “Look Sharp!” through, churned out hits like “The Look”, “It Must Have Been Love” and “Joyride” and is considered one of the most successful pop bands of the 1980s and 1990s, with around 80 million records sold. Fredriksson’s cancer in the early 2000s forced the duo to take a break of several years. In 2009 the band plunged into their second, no less successful career phase, until in 2016 the final end could no longer be avoided – Fredriksson’s illness had returned.

Last live performance in 2016

Roxette performed its last live performance in Cape Town in 2016 – and the restart will take place there on February 26, 2025. An extensive Australian tour follows in March, but there are no European dates yet.

“It’s all about my Roxette songs, this huge bundle of music and lyrics that I’ve been writing for well over three decades. I’m not starting a new duo. Marie will always be irreplaceable. However, I’m really happy to have a great one in Lena Philipsson “To have found a voice and a brilliant interpreter,” explains Gessle.
