According to Swedish public television SVT, Ran Sami village requires the cancellation of permits for Umeo, Western and veins on the last day of the rally.
The Swedish Rally is the second round of the World Cup 2025 and is scheduled for Thursday to Sunday. The organizers of the rally have long discussed with local Sami communities about the race route and the main claim of the village is the speed in the reindeer grazing areas.
The local population is also worried about the high noise level created by the rally car.
At the end of January, the District Administrative Council decided to grant a permit for the WRC event, but at the end of last week the local community appealed.
“In addition to the grazing stages, the rally becomes unusable for reindeer growing during the rally, the connection routes are also a major problem,” says Sami’s chairman Silja Junson Marklund.
“Rally cars make extremely high noise and drive at very high speed, causing serious disruption of reindeer pastures.”
The Sami community has called for the withdrawal of the speed stages if there are reindeer in the area.
Now the case has come to the Swedish Transport Agency, but it is not clear at the moment whether the agency will be able to deal with the complaint until the start of the rally.
Agency spokesman Martin Anderšon SVT said the agency’s aim is to deal with the case “with the highest priority and urgency”.
Meanwhile, the Swedish Rally Racing Director Eric Ms. Remem admits that the situation is still unclear and that the transport agency has not yet contacted the rally organizers.
“The rally will take place, but we will see or need any changes,” said the Eye.
Latvia’s leading crew with pilot Martins Seska and helmsman Renārs Francis also plans to start in the Swedish Rally.
