Swimming Pool Closure Crisis: Wasselonne’s Battle for Renovation and Recovery

They thought they had hit rock bottom with the covid crisis. This was without taking into account this new blow: the closure, on September 1, of the inter-municipal swimming pool of Wasselonne, for a period of two years. “I learned it from DNA. And everything collapsed,” admits Joël Arbarery, technical director at the Wasselonne diving club. “A year ago, there was talk of three to six months of closure; in January, we left for a year. There, more than two years; it’s too much”, judge Evelyne Néant, president of the Wasselonne swimming club.

The decision to close the pool; the community of communes Mossig-Vignoble took it in mid-March in the face of soaring energy bills and the state of disrepair of the structure. The officials of the two clubs say they are aware of “the need for renovation work”. It is the duration of closure that they dispute. “She is excessive.
