A Swiss prospect loses control in the AHL
Lian Bichsel left the penalty box to fight against an opponent during his Texas Stars team’s victory against the Chicago Wolves (7-3). He was stopped by the referee.

Lian Bichsel is one of the strongest prospects in Swiss ice hockey. The 19-year-old defender, drafted by Dallas in the first round in 2022, is playing his first season in North America this year, wearing the Texas Stars jersey in the AHL. During the night from Wednesday to Thursday, the Solothurn stood out. But not for the right reasons.
While his team led 5-2 against the Chicago Wolves (final victory 7-3), Lian Bichsel was charged late by Kyle Marino. The Swiss international (8 caps) explained vigorously with his opponent, as is customary in this type of case, and was logically penalized.
The story could, should have, ended there. But the 1m96, 98kg colossus decided otherwise and left his “prison” to head towards Kyle Marino. The HC Biel-trained fullback was stopped in his tracks by the referee and received a game misconduct penalty for leaving the penalty box.
After three games in the NHL lobby, Lian Bichsel has one assist and no goals, and displays a neutral differential.
