2023-09-04 20:58:29

The Swiss men’s team suffered as expected its 4th defeat in 4 matches in the European volleyball championship. Coach Mario Motta’s men lost 3-0 to Italy in Ancona, bravely defending their chances.

The Helvetians, who had scored their first point on Sunday once morest Estonia (3-2 defeat), were clearly dominated by the reigning world and European champions. Powerless in the 1st (25-19) and especially the 3rd set (25-15), Switzerland nevertheless offered a good resistance in the 2nd set (25-23).

This reverse, the third suffered in 3 dry sets, practically removes all hope of qualification for the quarter-finals in Switzerland. It will play its last match on Wednesday once morest Belgium, who are to face Estonia on Tuesday in a game that may be decisive for the accession to the knockout phase.

Estonia (4 matches, 2 points), Belgium (3 matches, 1 point) and Switzerland (4 matches, 1 point) are in the fight for the 4th ticket available in this group A. Italy – which has not lost the smallest set in 4 matches -, Serbia and Germany are already qualified for the quarters.
