The Swiss mountain bikers made an ideal start to the world championships in Scotland. The young team around Nino Schurter won team gold ahead of France and Denmark.

In addition to Schurter and the experienced Linda Indergand, the two M23s Dario Lillo and Ronja Blöchlinger, as well as the two juniors Nicolas Halter and Anina Hutter, formed the Swiss sextet.

The Grisonne Hutter, 18, passed the baton to Schurter, the last runner, after making a superb comeback which took him from third to first place. She was able to pass the baton to her illustrious partner with respectively eight and thirteen seconds ahead of Austria and France. This allowed the 2016 Olympic champion to easily defend the leading position.

On arrival, the ten-time world champion distanced the French by nine seconds. Denmark secured the bronze medal in their duel with Canada.

Switzerland perfectly defended their title of world champion last year. Hutter, Blöchlinger, Lillo and Schurter also triumphed twelve months ago at Les Gets in France. In total, it is the 8th gold medal for Switzerland in this non-Olympic discipline of the world championships introduced in 1999.
