Switzerland and Ukraine want to organize a peace summit at the highest level. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj and Swiss President Viola Amherd announced this on Monday in Bern. Both sides wanted to start planning immediately. There was initially no date for the meeting.
An invitation to Russia is not planned, as Zelenskyj indicated. All countries that support Ukraine’s territorial integrity would be invited, he said. Russia launched a war of aggression once morest Ukraine in February 2022 and occupied large areas of land in the east and south.
The format of such a summit would follow the four Peace Formula conferences that have taken place since spring 2023 in Denmark, Saudi Arabia, Malta and on Sunday in Davos. 83 countries and international organizations were involved in Davos, but not China. Zelenskyj travels from Bern to Davos. There he takes part in the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF). On Monday, Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang paid his respects to the Swiss government. Li Qiang and Zelenskyj are among the most important guests at the conference.
