Many people were injured when a man with a knife attacked them in a central part of Zöfingen, in the canton of Aargau, Switzerland, near the border with Germany, today Wednesday (15.5.24).
The assailant tried to escape, but was arrested a short time later, while trying to hide in an adjacent building.

According to police, the motive of the attacker, who indiscriminately attacked bystanders – including a woman in advanced pregnancy – remains unclear. The police spokesman was unable to give an exact number of the injured who are being treated in hospital, but noted that some of them have serious injuries.
Eyewitnesses also stated that the assailant had self-harmed.
The wide-ranging police operation, which lasted around two hours, involved special police forces and a rescue helicopter.
