SWV is the only voice of small self-employed people, EPU & SMEs
Vienna (OTS) – In today’s Economic Parliament, the SWV parliamentary group showed once again that it is the only parliamentary group that uncompromisingly supports small entrepreneurs. With five applications, the SWV is calling for more rights and support for the self-employed, EPUs and SMEs and is committed to effective measures for the Austrian economy.

The fixed costs for business premises have become an existential threat for many entrepreneurs. Nevertheless, the Economic Association is against the long-needed rent cap. In addition, the ÖVP Economic Association also seems to want to increase the housing shortage and oppose the construction industry: “It is inexplicable to me how a faction here in the Chamber of Commerce can vote against a housing construction offensive. The construction industry, Austrian companies and the population would benefit if additional living space were created,” said Matznetter. The SWV application for the housing offensive also provides for the housing funding to be earmarked for actual housing construction – currently some federal states are not using the money for housing construction, but to restructure their budgets.
When it comes to the Support for the self-employed, EPU & SMEs Opinions apparently differ in principle: the business association and parts of the green economy support the federal government’s course that companies are deprived of their legal right to support. You are voting against our support package for the self-employed, EPU & SMEs. “There is even a ruling by the Constitutional Court that classifies the actions surrounding COFAG as unlawful and grants the companies a legal claim. It is now high time to make amends for what happened and roll out wide-ranging measures to support companies: VAT reductions, rent caps and energy price caps are long overdue,” explains SWV President Christoph Matznetter.
SWV President Christoph Matznetter also calls on the current KV negotiations to support the negotiators on their path to social partnership. The SWV brings to the Strengthening social partnership also an application. Because at the latest from Chancellor Nehammer’s scandalous video it is clear: the governing party ÖVP does not attach the value that it has to social partnership. This also seems to be met with displeasure by the entire Chamber of Commerce – through a joint proposal, which is also supported by the Economic Association, the Chamber of Commerce is committed to strengthening the successful path of social partnership at all levels.
The SWV application for Stop the increasing path of CO2 pricing receives widespread approval. “CO2 pricing should not have been introduced at all in the current economic situation – the fact that the Economic Association was unable to get its way with its party colleagues is significant. Especially since more and more voices are now being raised that CO2 pricing is not having the effect it should anyway,” says Katarina Pokorny, SWV Vice President and Division Chair for Transport and Traffic.
The SWV repeatedly submitted a request for the rapid implementation of a Craftsman bonus. Despite majority approval in the June Economic Parliament, there is still no implementation in sight. The Chamber of Commerce’s implementation report explains that the Finance Minister wants to wait for economic developments before introducing a craftsmen’s bonus. “If not now, when is the right time for the craftsman bonus? The latest forecasts see Austria in a recession. The numbers in trade and crafts in particular are alarming. With this project, the order situation could be improved quickly and many thousands of small businesses would be helped,” says Thomas Schaden, President of SWV Lower Austria.
“In summary, one can say that the ÖVP Economic Association and also the Green Economy still do not recognize the reality of the hundreds of thousands of small entrepreneurs and continue to advocate for the interests of large companies. This shows: The SWV is needed more than ever as the voice of the self-employed, EPU & SMEs in the current times of crisis“, confirms Matznetter.
