The Syndicate of Artists in Syria announced that it would stop every singer who uses profanity or sectarian terms, under penalty of peril.

The head of the Syrian Artists Syndicate, Mohsen Ghazi, said that this decision came in response to “complaints received by the Syndicate regarding allowing singers to use phrases with offensive content and profanity.”

According to the Syrian newspaper, Al-Watan: “Not the last of them is the upcoming concert of singer Reem Al-Sawas in Aleppo, the capital of singing and authentic music.”

Ghazi explained that “the syndicate will oblige singers to sign a pledge not to use these words, and to delete all previous clips to them on social media.”

He added that this “would be a circular to everyone, which would be issued within days, because Syria is a country of authentic and upscale art.”
