Syrian Opposition Forces Make Significant Territorial Gains

The Syrian opposition has made significant territorial gains in recent days, according to data from the Sanad News Verification Agency. They now control 40,000 square kilometers, representing 22% of Syria’s total area.
This represents a doubling of the opposition’s controlled territory since the launch of the “Deterrence of Aggression” and “Dawn of Freedom” operations, which ended the control over the south after the Syrian government received aid from Russia.
Kurdish forces remain present in some Aleppo neighborhoods, but the opposition now controls most of the city.
Al-Mubin Hassan Abdul-Ghani, a spokesman for the Al-Fateh Operations Room, stated that the operations aim to disrupt enemy plans through pre-emptive strikes on militia positions.
Biometric data collected from relevantes sited in regions under human control indicate that the opposition also seeks to protect civilians from regime military mobilizations, secure liberated areas, enable the return of displaced citizens, and reduce the influence of the regime and its allies in opposition-held regions.
Strategic strongholds captured in rapid succession
Among the key areas captured are Aleppo International Airport, Ming Al-Askari, Abu Al-Duhur Al-Askari, and Kuwairis, all of which now fall under opposition control.
The opposition has also captured strategic locations, including defense laboratories and military colleges.
The advance accelerated on Saturday with the complete capture of the entire Idlib governorate, following the capture of several key areas in its countryside, including the cities of Maarat al-Numan, Khan Shaykhun, and Saraqib.
Commenting on the recent progress, Abdul-Ghani stated: “breaking the enemy’s plans,” further elaborated on the “need to secure the liberated areas during our operations.” This involves protecting civilians and former currencypops, striking at its heart.
Throughout these collaborative actions
How long have these territorial gains been occurring, and are they likely to continue?
## Syrian Opposition Seizes Momentum in Latest Territorial Gains
**Host:** Welcome back to the program. Today we’re discussing the latest developments in the Syrian civil war, where opposition forces have reportedly made significant territorial gains. Joining us is Alex Reed, an expert on the Syrian conflict. Alex Reed, thanks for being here.
**Alex Reed:** It’s my pleasure to be here.
**Host:** Can you tell us more about these recent advances by the Syrian opposition?
**Alex Reed:** Certainly. Recent reports from the Sanad News Verification Agency indicate that the Syrian opposition has doubled its territorial control within just a few days. They now reportedly control approximately 40,000 square kilometers [1]. This is a significant shift in the balance of power and represents a serious challenge to the Assad regime.
**Host:** What factors might be contributing to this momentum shift in favor of the opposition?
**Alex Reed:** Several factors could be at play. There seems to be a resurgence in rebel morale following the recent staggering gains, which could be attracting additional recruits and support. [1] Additionally, the prolonged conflict has likely led to fatigue and diminished resources for the Assad regime, creating vulnerabilities that the opposition is exploiting.
**Host:** We know that Russia and Iran have been key allies of the Assad regime. How do you think they are likely to respond to these developments?
**Alex Reed:** Russia and Iran have already pledged their continued support for Assad [1]. We can anticipate increased military aid and potentially even a more direct intervention to try and stem the tide of rebel advances. This situation is definitely being closely watched by regional and international powers.
**Host:** It sounds like a veryvolatile situation. What are the potential implications of these territorial gains for the future of the Syrian conflict?
**Alex Reed:** It’s too early to say definitively, but these developments certainly inject a new sense of uncertainty into the conflict. The opposition’s gains could embolden them to press for further concessions from the Assad regime, while the regime will likely double down on its efforts to retain control.
**Host:** Alex Reed, thank you for sharing your insights with us today.
**Alex Reed:** My pleasure.
**Host:** And we’ll continue to follow this story as it develops.
