T20 World Cup: Bangladesh retain Super 12 chances after beating Oman

Al Emirat: Bangladesh maintained their chances of qualifying for the Super 12 by defeating Oman in the T20 World Cup 2021. Bangladesh won by 26 runs in a match that required victory to qualify. Bangladesh 153 all out in 20 overs and Oman 127-9 in 20 overs. In the first match, Bangladesh suffered an unexpected defeat to Scotland.

Batting first, Oman were bowled out for 153 in their first innings. Chasing a target of 154, Oman were 81-2 in the 11th over. But then Oman lost by a series of wickets.

Oman lost Jatinder Singh (40 off 33 balls) and Kashyap Prajapati (21 off 18 balls) in the opening over. After Kashyap’s return, Jatinder Oman’s scored 81 in the 12th over with the help of skipper Zeeshan Masood (12), but Mehdi Hasan broke the deadlock.

With this, no one was able to hold on to the Oman line which was in a state of collapse. Mustafizur Rahman took four wickets while Shakib Al Hasan took three. Earlier, Bangladesh opener Mohammad Naeem (64 off 50 balls) was the top scorer with a half-century. Shakib Al Hasan (42 off 29 balls) and skipper Mohammadullah (17) were the other batsmen to reach the double figures for Bangladesh.

For Oman, Bilal Khan and Fayaz Butt took three wickets each while Khalimullah took two wickets. In the first match, Oman defeated Papua New Guinea. Oman and Bangladesh have two points each in the group. Oman will face Scotland in the final, while Bangladesh will face Papua New Guinea.
