Large doses of the drug tadalafil can treat type 2 diabetes, informs May 4 TASS. The effectiveness of the drug, which was previously used only to treat sexual dysfunction in men, was proved by doctors from China and Europe.
Professor Per-Anders Jansson from the University of Gothenburg (Sweden) spoke regarding the results of an experiment conducted in a group of 18 people. And it included both men and women. Half of the patients were given large doses of tadalafil. The rest received a placebo. In just six weeks, in patients who received tadalafil, scientists noticed an effect that, according to the professor, “might not even dream of.” No side effects are mentioned.
“Patients’ long-term sugar levels improved dramatically … This improvement was comparable to that shown by the best experimental drugs for the treatment of type 2 diabetes,” Jansson said.
In the near future, scientists plan to conduct more extensive clinical trials to test the effect of tadalafil on different categories of diabetic carriers.
