After eight full days of mobilization -since the beginning of last week-, a “tripartite agreement” signed this Monday night at the Ministry of Transport offices put an end to the truckers’ strike.
The document in question contains 14 points and its two main themes are “security” y “fuel and transportation fee”.
It was signed by the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalveand by the deputy Minister of Transport, Christopher Pinedaon behalf of the Government.
He also signed it President of the Confederation of Production and Commerce, Juan Sutil; and the President of the National Society of Agriculture, Cristián Allendes.
On the part of those mobilized, the leaders of the Northern Force Confederation, Cristián Sandoval; and the South Central Truckers Confederation, Freddy Martinez.
THE COMPLAINTS ARE MAINTAINED
“Rates must be guaranteed by the business sector and that is what all of Chile has seen today, that the business sector has committed to paying the corresponding rates in those areas of the transport market where this was not happening,” said Manuel Monsalve after signing the document, by explaining what was the key element that allowed a solution to be reached.
In this way, he reaffirmed the position defined by the Government in recent days: public funds were not going to be used to reduce the cost of fuel paid by truckers by 35 percent, as they requested – this cost up to 500 million dollars a month – but the contracts between the carriers and the load generators had to be adjusted: the businessmen.
“It seems to me very good that the Confederation of Production and Commerce has taken charge“said the authority.
“We have not made any commitment to withdraw the complaints” by State Security Law, he also added, briefly. This point It was one of the “conditions” that the mobilized truckers had put in order to lower their protest.

The President of the CPC, Juan Sutilhad a key role in closing the negotiations and considered this as “a historic moment.”
“This is a topic that we have worked on for a week Among all of us, we have worked, I would say, side by side; I think it’s a good way to show that public-private agreements can be carried out with the concurrence of all the actors,” she said, valuing that the agreement “allows everyone to return to normality.”
“BEST ECONOMY FOR THE TRUCKER”
“What the business community did was a grandiose gesture: small and medium carriers, from Arica to Magallanes, we give thanks for being recognized“, he pointed Christian Sandovalleader of Fuerza del Norte, which brings together truckers from Arica to Paine.
freddy martinez reported that the end of the protests and road blockades is effective immediately: “We have already talked with the bases of the north, center and south.”
“We managed to make progress on many points that have to do with sustaining a joint work agreement in terms of improving tariff conditions, to participate with the important load generators of the country that represent the large business community, to be able with them to improve the economy of the trucker who has fewer trucks, the segment that we represent”, he explained.
“The agreement will build a better future for truckers and it will have a follow-up: the security part was quite well consolidated”, he highlighted.
