With a touch of hyperbole, one could call the new Mazda 6e a “Japanese Tesla.” this electric vehicle (EV) ventures into territory previously uncharted by the Mazda brand. While the exterior styling aligns with Mazda’s current design language, the interior, featuring a prominent central screen and a minimalist approach to physical buttons, marks a departure from the automaker’s traditional offerings.
But unlike Tesla, Mazda didn’t start from scratch. Rather, they leveraged a partnership with Chinese automaker Changan Automobile, adopting their cabin design and technological solutions.
This collaboration results in two distinct versions of the Mazda 6e:
Standard: Boasts 258 horsepower, a 68.8 kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery pack, and an estimated range of 298 miles (479 kilometers).
Long Range: Offers 244 horsepower, a larger 80 kWh NCM (Nickel Cobalt Manganese) battery, extending the range to 343 miles (552 kilometers).
However, the Long Range variant comes with a trade-off: slower charging speeds. The standard model can charge from 10% to 80% in a swift 22 minutes, while the extended range version requires 45 minutes.
The Mazda 6e stretches over 16 feet (4.9 meters) in length, with a wheelbase of 9.5 feet (2,895 mm). The trunk offers a cargo capacity of 16.5 cubic feet (466 liters).
During its international premiere, Mazda representatives suggested the 6e’s pricing would be comparable to the Tesla Model 3.
In the U.S. market, the Tesla Model 3 currently starts around $42,000 (converted from the provided CZK 1,005,490).
The new Mazda 6e is slightly pricier, but not dramatically so. The base Takumi trim starts at approximately $46,500 (converted from CZK 1,069,900).The Long Range version commands a price of around $48,000 (converted from CZK 1,104,900).This price includes features like 19-inch alloy wheels, full LED lighting, an electric rear spoiler, synthetic leather upholstery, an electric driver’s seat, and heated front and rear seats (with ventilation in the front).
For those seeking a more premium experience, the Takumi Plus option is available for approximately $48,600 (converted from CZK 1,118,900) for the standard range and $50,100 (converted from CZK 1,153,900) for the Long Range. This trim adds Nappa leather and suede upholstery, a leather steering wheel, wood trim on the dashboard and door panels, a black fabric headliner, a hinged center console, and an electric sunroof.Perhaps a more apt comparison for the Mazda 6e than Tesla is Volkswagen’s ID.7. While the ID.7 is slightly bigger and more powerful, its price tag starts considerably higher, closer to $59,000 (converted from CZK 1,349,900).This potentially translates to savings of around $12,000 for the Mazda 6e. Moreover, Mazda simplifies the configuration process with limited options, primarily focusing on color choices (ranging from approximately $850 to $1,200 when converted from CZK 19,500 to 27,500). Mazda also sweetens the deal with a 6-year/93,000-mile (150,000 kilometer) warranty and a 12-year corrosion warranty.

How does the Mazda 6e’s range compare to other EVs in its price bracket?
Welcome to Archyde, and thank you for joining us today. We have with us Ms.Anya Sharma, our esteemed automotive expert, to discuss Mazda’s exciting new all-electric sedan, the 6e. Anya, welcome!
Thank you for having me! I’m very excited to delve into the details of the new Mazda 6e.
So,Anya,Mazda is venturing into the EV market with the 6e. Many are calling it a “Japanese Tesla” in the making. What are your initial thoughts on this new model?
That’s a fair comparison, though perhaps the Volkswagen ID.7 is a more relevant one, given the price point. the Mazda 6e is a significant step for them. It carries the elegance we expect from Mazda with modern EV technology, but crucially, it’s not a ground-up EV. The collaboration with Changan Automobile for the cabin design is a smart move, leveraging established technology and expertise.
Let’s talk about the specs. We’re looking at two versions, correct?
That’s correct. We have the standard model with around 258 horsepower and a range of nearly 300 miles thanks to a 68.8 kWh battery. Then there’s the Long Range version, which boosts the range to approximately 343 miles and offers more battery capacity. But with this comes slower charging. The standard model charges much faster, with 10-80 percent charge in merely 22 minutes, whereas the long-range version takes about 45 minutes.
The numbers are indeed impressive. How does the price stack up against other EVs in the market, especially the Tesla Model 3?
Mazda is aiming to be competitive. The base model starts at around $46,500, slightly more than the base Tesla Model 3. The Long Range version is roughly $48,000.When you consider the included features –19-inch alloy wheels, synthetic leather, and heated seats – Mazda is offering good value. and as mentioned before with comparison to Volkswagen ID.7, the Mazda 6e is the way to go
The interior design seems to be a departure for Mazda as well, leveraging digital screens and minimizing physical buttons. What’s your take on this shift?
It’s a necessary evolution. The minimalist approach is trendy with the latest EVs, also it delivers comfort and practicality. The central screen should be very user-friendly and intuitive. The partnership with Changan has certainly helped in this area, offering technology and design solutions.
And the warranty? What can we expect in terms of after-sales support?
Mazda offers a 6-year/93,000-mile warranty, plus a 12-year corrosion warranty. This is a strong vote of confidence in the vehicle’s quality and a significant draw for potential buyers.
Anya, this is certainly intriguing. The Mazda 6e brings a new level of style and technology to the affordable EV market. Do you foresee it being a prosperous venture for mazda?
Absolutely. The elegant design, the reasonable price, good range, and the extended warranty are all elements that make the 6e a significant contender. It will be a great addition to the EV market.
Anya, thank you for this insightful discussion. Readers, what are your thoughts on the new mazda 6e? Share your opinions in the comments below!
