Where does this multi-coloured, gently melancholic pop gaiety come from, given that he had a childhood that was often hurt? Mika draws his energy from the values transmitted by his mother, Lebanese, a pillar of his life. More than an education, it is a “philosophy of colour”, as he calls her, this mother who left him, on his birthday, a very symbolic drawing before passing away. “She had brain cancer”, he says. What his mother calls “flowering” is also the spirit of his family. “It was a way of resisting life, of starting over every time there was a challenge”, he explains. “The bullying started at school when I was eight or nine years old”, Mika also says. What is crazy is that it was bullying from a teacher. “It was little comments in front of everyone that made the whole class laugh”, explains the singer.
