Al-Marsad newspaper: The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, Sheikh Dr. Abdul Latif bin Abdulaziz Al Sheikh, directed mosque preachers in various regions of the Kingdom to devote the upcoming Friday sermon, the fourteenth of the current month of Rabi’ al-Awwal, to warning against waste and food waste.

The account of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs published a blog post on the “X” communication website: “Based on the letter received by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance from His Excellency the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Authority for Food Security, requesting the participation of preachers in Sharia awareness to reduce food loss and waste, What is included in His Excellency’s letter is that the field survey study of food loss and waste in the Kingdom conducted by the General Authority for Food Security showed that the rate of loss and waste amounted to (33.1%) at an annual cost estimated at about (40) billion riyals.”

He continued: “Accordingly, His Excellency the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, Sheikh Dr. Abdul Latif bin Abdulaziz Al Al Sheikh, directed the preachers of mosques in various regions of the Kingdom to devote the upcoming Friday sermon, the fourteenth of the current month of Rabi’ al-Awwal, to warning against extravagance and food waste, which has been forbidden by law. He said: God Almighty: And eat and drink, and do not be extravagant. Indeed, He does not like the extravagant. And He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “The food of two is sufficient for three, and the food of three is sufficient for four,” and an explanation of what society must do regarding these blessings in order to preserve them.
