The Secretary of the Syndicate of Ovens, Nasser Sorour, explained in a statement, “The reason for the partial and total cessation of distributing bread to shops in all Lebanese regions, and the queues at the doors of the bakeries, is due to the non-compliance of the mills in which subsidized wheat is located, to work for 48 hours on Saturday and Sunday in a regular manner. It is exceptional for the bakeries to receive the required quantities of flour and work at their full capacity to end the loaf crisis. In addition, the suspended mills did not receive subsidized wheat to resume work, as was agreed upon from the mills that have subsidized wheat and have limited production capacity.
He said: “From here, we see that the solution paper presented to the ministry until now has not been implemented, and we repeat the request to His Excellency the Minister of Economy, Amin Salam, to intervene directly and personally to implement what was stated in the paper that was delivered to his advisors until the bread crisis is resolved at this difficult stage.”
