HENDERSON, Nev. – The Las Vegas Raiders announced Sunday the hiring of Andrew Janocko as their new Offensive Coordinator. The move comes as new head coach Klint Kubiak assembles his coaching staff, signaling a fresh direction for the Raiders’ offense.
Janocko, whose last name is pronounced “juh-NO-co,” arrives in Las Vegas after a successful stint as the quarterbacks coach for the Seattle Seahawks. He played a key role in the Seahawks’ run to Super Bowl LX, where they ultimately emerged victorious. His expertise was particularly evident in the development of quarterback Sam Darnold, who earned his second consecutive Pro Bowl selection in 2025.
Darnold’s 2025 season under Janocko’s tutelage saw him complete 323 of 477 passes (67.7%) for 4,048 yards and 25 touchdowns, solidifying his position as one of the league’s top quarterbacks. The Raiders are hoping Janocko can replicate that success in Las Vegas.
Janocko brings a wealth of experience to the Raiders, totaling 14 years in coaching, including 12 in the NFL. Prior to Seattle, he spent a season with the New Orleans Saints in 2024, where he worked with quarterback Derek Carr, helping him achieve a 67.7% completion rate (189-of-279) for 2,145 yards, 15 touchdowns, and a 101.1 passer rating. Carr finished sixth in the NFL in third-down passer rating (109.6) and tenth overall in passer rating that season, according to the Raiders official announcement.
Building a Resume of Quarterback Development
Janocko’s coaching journey includes significant contributions to the development of several prominent NFL quarterbacks. During his two years as quarterbacks coach for the Chicago Bears (2022-2023), he was instrumental in the growth of Justin Fields. Fields completed 419 of 688 passes (60.9%) for 4,804 yards and 33 touchdowns in 28 starts under Janocko’s guidance. In 2023, despite missing two games due to injury, Fields improved his passing numbers, completing 227 of 370 passes (61.4%) for 2,562 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Fields also demonstrated his dual-threat ability, rushing for 657 yards and four touchdowns on 124 carries. Notably, in Week 14 of the 2023 season, Fields became the second-fastest quarterback in NFL history to reach 2,000 rushing yards, achieving the milestone in just 36 games. He joined Lamar Jackson and Michael Vick as one of only three quarterbacks to surpass 1,000 rushing yards in their first three seasons.
Extensive NFL Experience
Before his time with the Bears, Janocko spent seven seasons with the Minnesota Vikings (2015-2021), holding various roles including coaching the offensive line (2017-2019), wide receivers (2020), and quarterbacks (2021). In 2021, he helped Kirk Cousins achieve a Pro Bowl season, with the veteran quarterback throwing for 4,221 yards, 33 touchdowns, and a 103.1 passer rating. Fieldgulls.com notes that Janocko also played a key role in the development of Justin Jefferson, who had a record-breaking rookie season in 2020.
Janocko’s early NFL experience includes two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2012-2013) and a graduate assistant role at Rutgers University in 2011. He also spent a year coaching quarterbacks at Mercyhurst University in 2014.
What’s Next for the Raiders Offense?
The hiring of Janocko represents a significant step in Kubiak’s efforts to reshape the Raiders’ offense. With a proven track record of developing quarterbacks and a diverse coaching background, Janocko is expected to bring a fresh perspective and innovative approach to Las Vegas. The focus will now shift to building a cohesive offensive scheme and maximizing the potential of the Raiders’ existing roster. The team will glance to Janocko to build upon the successes he’s had with quarterbacks like Darnold, Fields, and Cousins.
