Ferrari took over from Mercedes in the second free practice session of the Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prixwith the Monegasque Charles Leclerc in first position (1:12.345) and the Spanish Carlos Sainz second to only four thousandths.

If the morning had been dominated by the Mercedes of the British George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, the followingnoon was for the Italian racing cars.

With Verstappen looking for sensations, the Spaniard Carlos Sainz did not take long to get first in the time table (1:13.412), although far from the 1:12.845 that had given him third place in the morning practice and that he soon improved (1:12.349 ).

Red Bull focused on setting up the Dutchman’s car in the box as the session approached the halfway point, with the reigning champion formula 1 in provisional fifth position.

In front of his fans, Verstappen did not quite feel comfortable, who finished in eighth place and neither did his teammate, the Mexican Sergio ‘Checo’ Pereztwelfth.

An excursion by the Japanese Yuki Tsunoda to the gravel with twelve minutes to go caused the red flag and the activity returned with four remaining, but nothing changed in the upper part of the classification, with the British Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) in third place and the Spanish Fernando Alonso (Alpine), seventh.

The qualifying for the Dutch GP will be held this Saturday, September 3, from 09:00 in our country. The Grand Prix will be on Sunday 4, also starting at 09:00.

Leclerc fastest in second practice

The start of the second practice session was delayed by 15 minutes to address the effects of Jehan Daruwala’s pivot in the final minutes of Formula 2 qualifying.

Compared to the morning session, the condition of the track improved, the trajectory was covered with used rubber, but the strong wind interfered, which had already caused several incidents during the day.

Verstappen almost completely missed the first training session due to problems with the gearbox, it was changed between sessions – and in the second Max left one of the first. No sanctions will follow for this – the failed box has worked out its resource and was “Friday”.

Pierre Gasly lost the first ten minutes due to problems with the car, but then was able to leave.

The riders worked out the traditional program for evaluating the life and efficiency of tires on the course, focusing on preparing cars for qualification, which is especially important on a narrow non-passing track. Having started the session with long series on Medium, the riders switched to Soft, but the series had to be interrupted.

At the 48th minute, the session was stopped by red flags – Yuki Tsunoda flew into the gravel at the exit of the tenth turn, the car got stuck and had to be evacuated. Daniel Ricciardo also ended his workout ahead of schedule due to a leak in the cooling system.

Less than four minutes remained until the end of the session, when the green light turned on at the exit from the pit lane, the drivers drove to the Soft with a small amount of fuel, but no one attacked and this series did not affect the results.

The protocol was headed by Charles Leclerc, having passed the lap in 1:12.345 and ahead of his partner by four thousandths.

The condition of the track on Friday morning left much to be desired, the wind and sand on the pavement were great. The racers drove the first series of laps on the hardest tires, deciding on the settings, but it turned out to be short.

Verstappen's car had to be evacuated

First, Schumacher and Magnussen took turns cutting turn ten, driving into the gravel without consequences for the cars, and in the tenth minute, red flags appeared – Verstappen stopped at the exit of the third turn due to problems with the gearbox, the car had to be evacuated, Max did not leave anymore.

Lewis Hamilton: “It’s not a chore” / Formula 1

In Belgium, record-breaking champion Lewis Hamilton has said he won’t be mad if he can put the 2022 Mercedes aside at the end of the season. Is the rest of the program just torture for the 103-times GP winner?

Lewis Hamilton found clear words at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
