After qualifying at Monza, nine drivers were relegated, which is why several versions of the starting grid were shown around the paddock. Even the team leaders didn’t agree.
Charles Leclerc won qualifying at Monza. The Ferrari star was 0.145 seconds faster than Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen and thus made the Tifosi ecstatic. The Monegasque will also climb from pole into the 16th showdown of the season because he goes into Scuderia’s home game without an engine penalty.
His teammate Carlos Sainz, on the other hand, has to move back, the Spaniard turned the third fastest Q3 lap, but will start the race from 18th position. Verstappen has to start from position 7.
Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Pérez, who was fourth fastest in qualifying, also has to move back, starting from 13th position. Lewis Hamilton tackles the race from the last row of the grid. The seven-time world champion was fifth fastest in the final practice session, but starts from 19th position.
Even further back only Yuki Tsunoda drives off. Esteban Ocon, Valtteri Bottas, Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher also have to accept relegations. This is the provisional starting grid for the Italian GP on Sunday.
