A police officer was killed by a fighting cock during a raid in the Philippines.
According to a foreign news agency, a police officer who raided an illegal cockfight in the northern region of Samar in the Philippines was attacked by a fighting rooster, due to which the police officer’s artery was cut by the sharp blade in the rooster’s paw. .
The police officer was immediately shifted to the hospital, but the police officer died due to excessive bleeding. Lt. Bullock, who died from a chicken claw blade, was the police chief of San Jose town.
The chicken blade injured the left thigh of the police officer. It should be noted that in view of Corona, the local government has imposed a ban on cockfighting to avoid the gathering of people which can cause the spread of Corona.
Police officer Colonel Arnal Apod said that when I came to know about this incident, I was in disbelief because this is the first time in my 25-year police career that a police officer was killed due to cockfighting.
During the raid, three suspects were arrested for organizing cockfights, while two cocks with blades were also seized.
It should be noted that during cockfights in the Philippines, sharp blades are attached to their claws to make them more dangerous to their opponent, and the fight ends only when one rooster dies.
Cockfighting is a very popular pastime in the Philippines, and these fights are usually attended by large crowds and heavily betted on the rooster’s victory.

**Interview with Colonel Arnal Apod, Police Chief, San Jose Town**
**Interviewer:** Colonel Apod, thank you for joining us today. This incident is truly shocking. Can you elaborate on how the police department is responding to the tragic death of Lieutenant Bullock?
**Colonel Apod:** Thank you for having me. The loss of Lieutenant Bullock is a profound tragedy for our department, and we are in mourning. His dedication to serving the community was evident throughout his career. We are reviewing our approach to enforcing the ban on cockfighting, ensuring that our officers can conduct their duties safely.
**Interviewer:** It’s interesting to note that despite the long-standing tradition of cockfighting in the Philippines, it has been banned due to the pandemic. Do you think this incident might change how local authorities view this activity or lead to stricter regulations?
**Colonel Apod:** Absolutely. This incident may serve as a wake-up call to both the authorities and the community. We have to take the dangers associated with cockfighting seriously—not just from animal welfare perspectives, but also from a safety standpoint for our officers and citizens.
**Interviewer:** Some people argue that cockfighting is a cultural tradition that should be preserved, while others say it is a cruel sport that has no place in modern society. Where do you stand on this debate?
**Colonel Apod:** That’s a complex issue. While I appreciate cultural traditions, there needs to be a balance between preserving heritage and ensuring public safety and animal welfare. The loss we experienced should remind us all that some practices, especially those that involve violence, can have unintended and tragic consequences.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Colonel Apod. This incident raises a critical question: Should cultural traditions like cockfighting be preserved despite the risks they pose to human safety and animal welfare? What do you think?
