Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay began its path to the 2026 World Cup in an auspicious way this Friday, defeating Chile 3-1 (2-0 partial) at the Centenario Stadium in Montevideo for the first date of the South American qualifiers.

The Celeste’s victory came with a double from Nicolás de la Cruz (at 38 and 71) and Federico Valverde, at 45+2, while Arturo Vidal scored for the visit at 74.
