Tata Motors has launched a facelifted version of its Punch EV, now available for booking at dealerships across India, with prices starting at ₹9.69 lakh (approximately $11,600 USD), according to multiple reports.
The updated electric vehicle offers two battery options: a 30 kWh battery providing a range of 265 km (165 miles), and a larger 40 kWh battery extending the range to 468 km (291 miles). These figures are based on testing conducted by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).
Charging capabilities include fast charging support up to 65 kW DC, allowing a 20-80% charge in approximately 26 minutes. A 15-minute charge is claimed to add up to 135 km (84 miles) of range. A significant feature is a lifetime battery warranty offered to the first owner, a relatively uncommon offering in this vehicle segment.
The Punch EV boasts a 130 PS electric motor, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in under nine seconds. It also features a 195 mm (7.7 inches) ground clearance and a water-wading depth of 450 mm, along with a restart gradeability of 32 percent.
Drivers can select from Eco, City, and Sport driving modes, and the vehicle incorporates four levels of regenerative braking adjustable via paddle shifters. Tata Motors has implemented a new “X-in-1” e-drive module, integrating six systems into a single unit, resulting in a 50% reduction in size, a 28% weight reduction, and a nearly 6% increase in efficiency.
The vehicle’s efficiency is further enhanced by a 30% reduction in electrical connections and a 40% decrease in the use of semiconductors. A full temperature management system, utilizing eTXV technology, regulates both cabin and battery temperatures.
Inside, the Punch EV features a 26.03 cm (10.25 inch) Harman-engineered infotainment screen with Arcade.ev 2.0 and a digital instrument panel supporting navigation. Additional features include ventilated leatherette front seats, a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, wireless smartphone connectivity, a sunroof with voice commands, an air purifier, Alexa integration, an SOS button, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, LED lighting, diamond-cut alloy wheels, push-button start, roof rails, and fast-charging USB-C ports in the rear.
Safety features include six airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), electronic stability program (ESP), hill hold assist, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. Connected car features encompass over-the-air updates, valet mode, vehicle health reports, trip analysis, remote commands, and e-call functionality.
The exterior design incorporates a closed grille typical of electric vehicles, a redesigned bumper, new wheel designs, an updated signature light bar, and new exterior color options with a contrasting black roof. The 30 kWh battery variant is priced at ₹9.69 lakh, whereas the 40 kWh version starts at ₹10.89 lakh.
