The Taipei Steel Eagles will face the Fubon Titans in their first home game this year at Chengcheng Lake Baseball Stadium on April 5. In this historic first home game in the history of the team, the team invited Kuriyama Hideki and Ibata Hirokazu to visit the stadium. Kuriyama Hideki once promised Wang Borong that he would “definitely come to Taiwan to find you.” Fulfilling his promise, he will witness Wang Borong playing as the captain of the Eagles on the sidelines.
Hideki Kuriyama is currently the chief baseball officer (CBO) of the Nippon Professional Baseball Ham team. He has 10 years of Ham supervision experience and led the Japanese team to win the 2023 World Baseball Classic championship. Hirokazu Ibata is the current supervisor of the Nippon Samurai team and has served as NSCO Eagles guest infield fielding coach. The two former Japanese Samurai Supervisors will serve as guests of honor for the Eagles’ opening home game, adding further glory to the Eagles’ historic first home game.
Hideki Kuriyama said: “It is a great honor to be able to participate in this historic moment of the team’s home opening game in Kaohsiung, the home ground of the Taiwan Steel Eagles. In 2018, Hideki Kuriyama was the supervisor of the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters. At the end of the year, he came to Taiwan in person to attend the press conference for Wang Borong to join Nippon Ham. At the end of last year, Wang Borong returned to Taiwan to join the Taiwan Steel Eagles. Hideki Kuriyama sent his blessings across the sea through the video. Hirokazu Ibata has a close relationship with the Eagles. In the 2022 fall training, he came to Taiwan to serve as a guest infield fielding coach, which benefited the young infielder a lot. In August of the following year, he served as the supervisor of the U-12 Japanese representative team and came to Taiwan again, taking advantage of the Taipei Steel Eagles. During the game in Tainan, I took the time to go to the Tainan Baseball Stadium to meet with head coach Hong Yizhong and encourage the players I had coached in the past.
Ihata used his private time to come to Taiwan again at the end of last year, and took advantage of the winter league competition to come to Taiwan to pay attention to the current situation of the Taiwan Steel Eagles players. Now that the Taiwan Steel Eagles are about to fly to the battlefield of the First Army, Supervisor Ihata will not be absent and will come to Kaohsiung again.
