To know the reason for the intense rains, The universal consulted the Caribbean Oceanographic and Hydrographic Research Center (CIOH) which, through the National Marine Meteorological Service, explained that the recorded rains have their origin in the intertropical convergence zone or Monsoon Trough.

“These rains have been the product of the activity on the Central Coast of Colombia, of an elongated area of low pressure where the trade winds converge, known as the Monsoon Trough, in association with meteorological processes at high levels of the atmosphere, which have influenced the the progressive increase in cloudiness and consequently the occurrence of moderate to heavy rainfall in the region,” they reported.

Take action: heavy rain could be repeated in Cartagena, why?

“The District is articulating the attention to these emergencies in accordance with the Contingency Plan for the rainy season and hurricanes, but here we also need the participation of citizens. In several sectors we find effects derived from the lack of culture, from the bad habit of throwing garbage into pipes, streets and canals, ”he said.

For its part, the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideam) forecasts rain and possible electrical storms in sectors of the Caribbean, north, northeast and west Andean regions.
