Man, Jul 30, 2023 (AIP) – A total of 1046 people have been screened in Man, according to data communicated by the national coordinator for the fight against viral hepatitis, Pr. Allah Kouadio Emile, on the occasion of the celebration of the 16th world day against viral hepatitis, organized in the gardens of the prefecture.

Mr. Kouadio, indicated that 146 people tested positive out of the total number, representing a prevalence rate of 13%. Of the 900 others tested negative, only 152 received their dose of vaccine against viral hepatitis, said the regional director of the National Institute of Public Hygiene in Man.

Viral hepatitis poses today a real public health problem, as they are ignored by the populations.

According to the coordinator of the fight, these are conditions that are wrongly assimilated to malaria, ”which results in a delay in diagnosis, which most often occurs at the stage of complications, in particular cirrhosis and primary cancer. liver”. This is why he welcomed the holding of this day which aims to educate people about evil.

“This day makes it possible to launch an appeal to our populations, to make them aware of what viral hepatitis is, what complications they are exposed to, what are the possibilities of prevention and what are the possibilities of treatment. charge available to them,” said Professor Allah Kouadio Emile.

The health authority invited the populations to avoid this disease by cleaning the food to be consumed but also by avoiding unprotected sexual intercourse, the exchange of saliva and the use of soiled objects.

The people who made the trip in large numbers appreciate the initiative and would like the program to be extended in Tonkpi in order to allow as many people as possible to benefit from the screening session.

Viral hepatitis according to the World Health Organization (WHO), affects more than 90 million people in the African region, i.e. 26% of the world quota and each year 124,000 Africans die from the consequences of undetected and undetected viral hepatitis. treated.

Côte d’Ivoire is in an area of ​​high prevalence of the hepatitis B virus, with more than one in 10 people carrying this viral disease. In addition, hepatitis B and C, which respectively show a prevalence rate of 10% and 1 to 3%, are the first cause of liver cancer in the country. First cause of cirrhosis and primary liver cancer, hepatitis B, C and D pose a real public health problem.
