Talented Kabongo: National team? I know I could represent Congo and Russia in the future, but that’s not in my mind right now

Twenty-year-old Christophe Kabongo, who came through the youth ranks of Sparta Prague, is among the talented Czech attackers. He currently belongs to the Belgian Lommel, is a guest in Slovakia in Podbrezová and plays for the U21 national team. What’s next and is it a variant of the representation of Congo or Russia?

Christophe Kabongo left Sparta for Lommel in Belgium in the summer of 2020. In February of last year, he decided to go to Slovakia’s Podbrezová, where he got more attention. He scored five goals during the spring and decided to continue with the team.

He is currently in his second season in Podbrezová and has 3 goals and 3 assists to his credit. So he is not doing quite as expected, but he is also getting opportunities in the national team, where he hit the Slovakian net.

He is currently among the Czech hopes, but it is possible that he will not represent his native country in the future. Neither of his parents are Czech, so he has two other options of countries he can represent.

“Mom is Russian and has been in the Czech Republic since she was seven years old, and dad from the Democratic Republic of Congo has been here for 25 years. They met at work and then I was born. I haven’t been to the Congo or Russia, but I definitely plan to in the future.” Kabongo said in an interview for Livesport Daily.

“Now I’m only concentrating on the matches of the Czech national team. Of course, I know that I could represent other countries in the future, and maybe one day it will tempt me, I don’t rule it out. But I don’t have that in my head right now.” he added.

So everything will depend on his performance. Of course, Kabong’s dream is to compete in elite European competitions, but for that he has to work hard for some time.

“Football dreams? Of course I have them, I would like to play in the top league. And I have an idea of what the next gradual step should be. But I also believe that if I said it out loud, it might not come true. So I guess I’ll keep this to myself.” he finished.
