The elected director of Faculty of Medicine of the UAT, Raúl de León Escobedohighlighted that the pediatric endocrinologists, and neonatologists They are two of the specialties that are required in the state, since some municipalities do not even have one, to deal with “rare diseases”, despite the fact that they are well paid and have greater access to technology, since they serve in the private sector They even participate with international laboratories.
“It would be desirable to have one for each city, and for each health institution to have one, but sometimes this does not happen; important cities such as Reynosa, Matamoros, Laredo, and Tampico there should be five or six so that each institution would have its own pediatric endocrinologist, which would give it a medical quality”.
“They are highly valued specialties, because there are not many, they do very well in private practice, they have a full schedule, and they have access to technology, they even send samples and participate in international studies, and are part of protocols for very important laboratories, because traditional laboratories do not invest in rare diseases because there are few patients”.
He also mentioned the importance of the pediatric endocrinologist because he can participate in study protocols for his patients and thus have access to medicines free of charge by the pharmaceutical industry.
The pathologist will assume the position of director of the School of Medicine on March 16, and pointed out the importance of teachers showing their students the way to perform in the well-being of the patient.
“I discuss it with my students, because they bring the idea of being cardiologists, neurosurgeons, or gynecologistsand those areas of the medicine they are saturated, instead what we mentioned is a very promising territory, because there are cities in the state where there is not a single one, and whoever arrives will do well, because there is a great need,” he said.
He indicated that the career as a specialty demands time, because it takes two years to epediatric endocrinologistand from three to four years where they are residing.
He recalled that there are very few who decide for this specialty, and the clear example was in the graduation of specialists from the children’s hospital Tamaulipas.
