Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima: half-full dams

The reservoirs of the dams in this region have so far stood at 884.94 million m3, i.e. a filling rate of 51.36%, compared to approximately 1.21 billion m3 during the same period in 2021. Their total capacity is estimated at 1.721 billion m3.

The issue of water resources concerns all components of Moroccan society. Also, the level of the dams is carefully scrutinized. If the reserves are down, this has adverse effects on drinking water supply and agricultural irrigation.

For the time being, the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region is more or less doing well: the reservoirs of its dams, whose capacity exceeds 1.721 billion m3, have so far stood at 884.94 million m3 , i.e. a filling rate of 51.36%, compared to approximately 1.21 billion m3 during the same period in 2021, specifies a report from the General Directorate for Water, under the Ministry of Equipment and Water. .

Disparate levels

In the Loukkos area, the reservoirs of Oued El Makhazine (Larache province), the largest dam in the region, reached 449.4 million m3, i.e. a filling rate of about 66.8%, against 632, 2 million m3 during the same period a year earlier, while those of Dar Khrofa stood at 179.6 million m3 (37.4%).

Regarding the reservoirs of the April 9 dam (Tangier-Assilah prefecture), they amounted to 49.5 million m3, i.e. a filling rate of 16.5%, while this rate reached 29.8% (8. 7 million m3) for Ibn Battouta. As for the filling rate of Moulay El Hassan Ben El Mahdi, located in the province of Fahs-Anjra, it stood at 71.6% (16.8 million m3).

The report of the General Directorate of Water also reveals that the Tanger Méditerranée dam in the province of Fahs-Anjra reached a filling rate of 90.6% (19.9 million m3), while this rate reached 58 .1% for that of Abdelkrim Al Khattabi, located in the province of Al Hoceima (6.8 million m3).

In the province of Tetouan, the Nakhla dam reached a filling rate of 100% (4.21 million m3), while those of Acharif Al Idrissi and Smir recorded respective rates of 82.7% (100, 63 million m3), and 96.9% (37.7 million m3). As for the filling rate of the Jomoua dam (Al Hoceima province), it stood at 14.5% (0.7 million m3), while the reservoirs of the Chefchaouen dam reached 11 million m3 (89.7%).
