Tataouine: Resumption of work on the Gaz du Sud project next March

Work on the Gaz Sud project in Tataouine will resume from March 2023 after an interruption of more than 3 months, Moncef Handoura, one of the technical managers of the project, told TAP.

According to the same source, the resumption of work follows a working session held on February 8, 2023 at the headquarters of the governorate of Tataouine in the presence of an official of the Tunisian company of petroleum activities (ETAP) and which allowed the adoption of key decisions such as the return of the 91 workers and technical managers who worked on the site.

Among the decisions taken during this meeting, the integration of 177 candidates who passed the stages of the recruitment competition according to the agreement signed with the EPPM company which abandoned the project in favor of the Chinese partner.

It was also decided to pay the wages of the workers who had been owed by the first employer for more than 3 months in addition to filing a file with the courts in order to guarantee the rights of the workers, according to the same source.

Remember that the southern gas project is one of the most important projects in the region after the revolution. Launched in 2019, the progress rate of the work did not exceed 16%, according to the same source, due to the blockages and delays recorded since its start.
