This is a criticism that comes up regularly in the mouths of elected officials on the left: large French companies are taxed less than small ones. To get to the bottom of it, the Finance Committee of the National Assembly seized the Council of Compulsory Levies, a body attached to the Court of Auditors. He just gave his answers. The study released on Tuesday shows that gross implied rate spreads narrowed sharply between 2007 and 2019.

“Whatever the indicator used, the differences in taxation between categories of companies are down sharply compared to those observed in 2007”, underline the authors of the report. Taking the implicit rate calculated on beneficiary companies alone, the gap between SMEs (excluding micro-enterprises) and large groups contracted to just 1.6 points in 2019, compared to 9.9 points in 2007.
