Kei Nishikori plays Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals in Atlanta
Things continue to go well for Kei Nishikori on his comeback on the “big” ATP tour. After three participations in Challenger tournaments, which at least brought the experienced Japanese a title, Nishikori was able to assert himself against Jungchen Shang from China after his opening success against Jordan Thompson in Atlanta. Nishikori won 6:4 and 7:6 (3) and plays against Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals.
The US tournament favorite, who was able to set rather few highlights this season, also won against Yibing Wu 6:4 and 7:6 (5).
Koepfer creates comeback victory
Dominik Koepfer put in a strong performance, turning a match against Daniel Evans that he thought he had already lost. In the afternoon games on Thursday, however, Koepfer still prevailed against the Brits 2: 6, 7: 6 (3) and 6: 4 and plays in the quarter-finals against John Jeffrey Wolf.
In the lower half of the tableau, Wimbledon surprise man Christopher Eubanks meets Aleksandar Vukic from Australia. And Atlanta number two Alex de Minaur will face Ugo Humbert.
