ORIGIN OF TEACHER’S DAY IN VENEZUELA
With the purpose of fighting for the dignity and rights of educators, the origin of Teacher’s Day dates back to January 15, 1932 when the Society of Primary Instruction Teachers was founded in Caracas.
However, it was not until 1936 when the institution convened the First National Convention of Teachers, an assembly from which the Venezuelan Federation of Teachers emerged, where notable personalities such as the first president, Miguel Suniaga, Roberto Martínez Centeno and Luis Beltrán Prieto Figueroa attended.
WHEN IS TEACHER’S DAY CELEBRATED IN VENEZUELA?
Teacher’s Day is celebrated in Venezuela on January 15 every year. This date is used by thousands of people to remember his valuable role in the formation of future citizens.
The reason why Venezuela celebrates Teacher’s Day every January 15 is because on that date in 1932, during the Government of Juan Vicente Gómez, a group of educators formed the Venezuelan Society of Primary Instruction Teachers in order to defend the labor rights of this union and improve education in the country.
Four years later, in 1936, this institution convened the First National Convention of Teachers, an assembly from which the Venezuelan Federation of Teachers originated. Later, in 1945, January 15 was officially declared Teacher’s Day, to honor educators and remember the creation of the organization.
WHAT ACTIVITIES WILL BE CARRIED OUT FOR THIS HOLIDAY?
On this Teacher’s Day there are still thousands of teachers in the Bolivarian country who are demanding better salaries and more dignified working conditions. Due to the economic crisis in the country that does not allow the basic basket to be covered with the assigned minimum wage.
The District School Educators Union (Sitraensenza) revealed that protests have been called for this Monday, January 15, the day in which the assistant teachers will carry out a march to the headquarters of the Ministry of Education with the purpose of accessing better salary, conditions and other demands.
As we indicated previously, the final destination is the Ministry of Education, however; There will be four concentration points starting with Carabobo Park, the Ministry of Labor, Plaza de La Moneda and finally, the Ministry of Education, according to the coordinator of Sitraenseñanza retirees, Luisa Rada.
