Teachers will protest Monday to demand salary improvements

Back to school is planned for Monday.

The Unitary Federation of Teachers of Venezuela (Fetramagisterio) called for a general mobilization of the Venezuelan teachers’ union on Monday, January 9, with the aim of demanding salary improvements and social security.

“Fetramagistrio rejects, deplores and protests, firmly and forcefully, the policy of the State-Employer to keep education workers mired in poverty, without social security or job stability, by constantly violating the rights enshrined in the legal system in force and signed collective agreements,” the organization said in a statement.

The representatives of said union demand that the Ministry of Education immediately resume the negotiation table of the III collective agreement of workers dependent on this government institution.

Back to school is scheduled for January 9, following the December holidays.
