Team EDF arrives in Bordeaux to raise awareness about para sport

This Thursday, November 23, the Palais des Sports in Bordeaux brought together more than 200 students, 3 members of Team EDF, 4 players from the French wheelchair basketball team, 7 influencers and 500 spectators for a day dedicated to raising awareness of parasport . On the program: initiations, tournament and wheelchair basketball gala match for Bordeaux youth.

This Thursday, November 23 at the Palais des Sports in Bordeaux, EDF brought the energy of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games to life in the region, with an event from its 2024 Future Games legacy program. This new event is part of the continuity of EDF’s commitment to sport for more than 30 years, and confirms the Group’s mobilization to popularize and encourage sport for all, in line with its values ​​of diversity, diversity, inclusion and performance.

The objective was to allow young people from Nouvelle-Aquitaine to live an unforgettable experience around parasport and to discover wheelchair basketball in professional conditions and in the presence of Team EDF athletes, influencers and members of the ‘French wheelchair basketball team, to change the way we look at disability.​​​​​​

Nearly 200 students took part in this event, with 24 teams of 8 people (23 student teams and 1 team made up of members of the Paris 2024 Club), participating in a wheelchair basketball tournament.

After being in the shoes of para athletes, the students were able to interact with Team EDF athletes: Arnaud Assoumani (multiple Paralympic medalist in long jump) Denis Gargaud (Olympic canoe-kayak champion) and Florent Manaudou (multiple Olympic medalist swimming) as well as with members of the French Wheelchair Basketball Team: Sofyane Mehiaoui, Sidney Attiogbé, Boubacar Konaté and Manel Semmi on their careers, their experiences and the future Olympic and Paralympic Games of Paris 2024.

The influencers Domingo, Just Riadh, El Marticino, Katsuup, Zack Nani, and Vaimalama Chaves joined the festivities, to learn about the discipline with members of the French wheelchair basketball team and Team EDF, before participating to a major Para All Star Game, for which the Palais des Sports opened its doors to the public.

On the program: Gala match between the athletes of Team EDF, the French wheelchair basketball team and the influencers, mixed into two teams led by Domingo and Florent Manaudou

Half-time of the match was animated by a Golden Shoot event for which a person from the general public drawn at random had the chance to win a pack for an all-expenses-paid weekend for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
