In testing for several months, the new version of Microsoft Teams is finally available on Windows and Mac. Between speed and efficiency, this Teams 2.0 is no exception and also relies heavily on AI. In particular thanks to Microsoft’s Copilot program.
Since yesterday, Thursday October 5, Teams users can benefit from the brand new version of the application. The testing phase, which began in March 2023, has ended and the client is accessible on Windows and Mac. On arrival, Microsoft can be proud of its teams as the product differs from the old model.
Faster, less greedy
One of the main challenges of the new version was to reduce the energy consumption of Teams. Until now, the software was extremely demanding in terms of resources and put older computers to death. But those days are over. The application now takes up 70% less hard drive space and should launch three times faster, selon Microsoft.
Far from stopping there, the giant claims that Teams 2.0 works twice as quickly as the previous version, while consuming 50% less memory. In short, fewer resources for more speed. Even on older devices, the difference should be felt.
Powered by Microsoft’s Edge WebView2 technology, Teams also supports multi-account (MTMA) and multi-tenant (MTO). Enough to greatly facilitate cross-communication. Note that, on Mac, users should notice an improvement in execution speed when switching chats and channels.
Would you like to learn some AI again?
Obviously, Microsoft is not letting go of the opportunity to highlight its Copilot program. Meeting summaries, key points of a product, real-time suggestions… It’s all there. Teams now places user experience above the rest, and that’s not necessarily to displease us.
On this subject, Microsoft also allows itself to add some gadget features, but appreciable for accessibility. As an example, the firm indicates that the application now automatically adopts the light or dark theme, depending on your system settings. At the same time, a “Seen” system is appearing for notifications and should soon be extended to conversations. Finally, Microsoft confirms the implementation of more effective keyboard shortcuts to improve navigation.
