Techies. Our tests of the Honor Magic Vs smartphone and the Asus ROG Strix G16 laptop

After the Samsung model, it is Honor which is launching into the horizontal folding. Equipped with a triple screen, it weighs a whopping 267g for 6.45 inches for the external screen and 7.9 cm for the interior unfolded one. Honor preferred the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, and not Gen 2, with a single configuration of 12 GB of RAM as well as 512 GB of storage. Power and fluidity are there, as well as controlled thickness.

The back camera appears quite prominent, but it seems quite efficient during the day, however at night there is unfortunately a lot of noise. Video movies can go up to 4K resolution. Its dual speaker provides very good stereo sound. What bothers us here seems simply to be the opening of the internal screen.

Indeed, equipped with a resistant hinge, perhaps too strong, handling is sometimes not very easy. A bit like its peers on the current market. The very classy design offers us very bright but terribly slippery OLED screens. Luckily, Honor has provided the essential parts here.

Whether for video games, reading videos or documents, it is an undeniable plus. Less thick than its competitor Fold, it seems more practical to us but also more supplied in the box. A test that is considered quite successful for a first folding machine.

Recommendation: 4/5

Contents of the box: SuperCharge charger, USB-C cable, pre-installed tempered films, protective cover.

Price: 1500 euros.

This is the first Strix model we’ve tested here. This is a model especially for gamers. With its Intel I7 processor and RTX 4060 graphics card it is made for. In detail, it is made up of six performance cores as well as eight efficient cores, which with Hyper Threading technology brings the cores to 20.

With a maximum of 4.9 Ghz. 8 GB in DDR5 with a free slot are implemented in RAM as well as 1 TB of storage in the form of Mvne SSD at even faster speed.

With its worthy technical characteristics, 16 inches are dedicated to the screen clocked at a maximum of 165 Hz. The charger unit boasts a power of 180 W. Under Windows 11 Home, with all this excess of hardware, you can do everything. Far from being an ultra-portable, it weighs its weight because several fans cool this powerful hardware.

Two USB 3.0 ports, two USB-C, an HDMI output, a network card, as well as a micro-jack socket complete the connections. And, to impress, the keyboard lights up in RGB with colors of your choice. It is very pleasant for typing. For the mouse, it is better to use an external one for more comfort in games.

The screen hinge seems rather sturdy, and one of the USB-C ports is compatible for connecting an external graphics card. DLSS 3 technology integrated into new graphics cards released makes it possible to significantly increase, with the help of AI, the number of images in titles. This model would look wonderful under a tree for a gaming fan!

Recommendation: 4.5/5
