Tecovirimat – a medicine used to treat monkeypox

Brincidofovir when tecovirimate is unavailable

Another substance, according to the STAKOB recommendations, is brincidofovir, a lipid conjugate of cidofovir, approved in the USA for the treatment of smallpox. Here, too, no data are said to be available for use in monkeypox. “Due to the increased toxicity (especially hepatotoxicity), the indication should be strictly defined, e.g. B. in the case of brilliant courses and a lack of availability of Tecovirimat,” it says. Brincidofovir is currently not freely available in Germany.
