Teen Sleep Deprivation and its Impact on Mental and Physical Health: BYU Study Reveals Troubling Findings

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH- A BYU study says teens who get too little sleep may have problems with their mental and physical health.

According to the study, these entertainment and leisure activities can affect young people’s sleep duration, especially if they are carried out at night.

Sleep is important for physical, emotional, and cognitive development; especially in adolescence.

According to the National Sleep Foundation, teens should get 8 to 10 hours of sleep; however, because of hormones, their body doesn’t tell them to sleep early; that is why parental guidance is essential.

Experts explain that part of these sleep problems that adolescents might go through, if they do not receive help, might even drag them into adulthood and become diseases.
