A few days ago, a user posted a message on Facebook explaining that a 15-year-old young man, who was riding a bicycle, had been fined by the police because his fishing rod protruded too much from the trailer of his bicycle. A fine “without forgiveness” of 185 euros, according to the author of the message.
A message that provoked many reactions, and a call for donations was even launched to help the teenager finance his fine. The police, for their part, have received much criticism. To such an extent that an adjustment was necessary!
On Facebook, the Bredene/De Panne police zone published the initial message explaining what really happened. A few months ago, the teenager had in fact been approached by a man “in blue”, telling him that he risked a fine of 185 euros. But he has so far not received a fine and the police confirm that they have no open file on this subject. The fine would not have been so high anyway, say the police.
The police contacted the author of the initial message and asked him to provide details: “This is further proof that the messages which are on the networks are taken at face value by many people”, regrets the police.
