This Tuesday morning, Femke (16 years old) went to school by taking the school bus, as usual. But this time, things were very different and for good reason. The girl was stuck between the doors of the De Lijn bus for several kilometers, as Het Laatste Nieuws and VTM Nieuws explain.

The incident took place on line 503, between Steenokkerzeel and Kampenhout, in Flemish Brabant. As she tried to get into the vehicle, the bus doors closed, trapping one of her legs while she was still outside.

“It had to go wrong”

The bus then started again. As the door blocking her leg had not closed properly, the teenager managed to hold on to the inside side of the door. The bus then drove for approximately four kilometers until it stopped. The young girl has some bruises. His parents indicated that they would file a complaint. “School buses of this type are always overloaded,” laments Femke’s mother. “One day it had to go wrong. »

“Luckily, she remained calm,” adds her mother. We actually see Femke not panicking on the surveillance footage of the bus, which probably avoided a tragic incident.

“We take this very seriously and strongly regret this incident,” responded a spokesperson for De Lijn. “We made contact, via a subcontractor, with the driver concerned. “He is a driver with an impeccable record of service and, according to his statement, he stopped immediately when he was warned.”

The subcontractor in charge of school bus will carry out a technical investigation. “The doors are normally equipped with security systems, so we want to understand what happened and why, in order to prevent this from happening again. »
