Telefónica and Qualcomm collaborate to build the future of XR and the Metaverse

This collaboration aims to develop the XR ecosystem by leveraging Snapdragon spaces, as well as to strengthen the skills of internal Telefónica teams and external innovation programs in XR hardware and application development and Services. With this agreement, the two companies are working to establish the foundations that will move the metaverse forward.

Telefónica and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. announced a collaboration to strengthen their leadership position in the future of XR and Metaverse. Together, they will work to develop and grow the XR ecosystem, leveraging the Snapdragon Spaces™ XR developer platform and Telefónica’s advanced fixed and mobile network infrastructure. The agreement also includes the exploration of joint business opportunities and the launch of XR/metaverse products and services.

Telefónica sees many possibilities in the combination of immersive devices with powerful networks and decentralized Web3 technologies. This agreement paves the way for new experiences for customers by merging the digital and analog worlds, reimagining commerce, entertainment and communication in the Metaverse.

Qualcomm Technologies introduced Snapdragon Spaces, a platform that enables developers to unlock the full potential of wearable AR through cutting-edge technology, a cross-device development kit, and an open XR ecosystem. Developers can create innovative experiences that will drive the next generation of immersive technologies.

In this regard, both companies are working to integrate Snapdragon spaces with different initiatives that are part of the Telefónica Innovation and Talent Hub, such as its grassroots and open innovation programs, and the 42 computer programming campus. This will help develop the Snapdragon Spaces ecosystem and foster the development of new products and services on XR, which Telefónica can test and market to its residential and business customers.
